Your gift guides are a work of art, thanks for sharing them with us.
I am off to buy “if we were dogs” for my nephew at my favorite local bookshop (shout out to Bank Square Books of Mystic, CT). I’ll also be purchasing Wreck for myself and then passing it along to my mom, just like I did with Sandwich.
From a fellow must-wear-compression-socks gal, yes! Wellows are amazing - sooo soft and plush and stretchy and comfy. (I really like Comrad and Vim & Vigr too.)
Thanks so much for this.... I adore gift guides, both for the stated purpose and just to see what folks I respect are loving!
Catherine, I just started reading Wreck today. I’m on page 20. This is tracking so closely with my life!! I’m reading your book at my favorite restaurant while having a reward meal after just getting the stitches removed from my first Mohs procedure (on my face, ugh). And my in-laws are talking about moving to our town. And I’m having preemptive empty nest grieving, even though my kids are still 13 and 15. You have your finger on the pulse of this moment in time. Thank you for capturing it all. I love you so much! 🥰😭
Catherine! Oh my word. I'm late to opening your gift guide this year, and I was so delighted to see my ornament pattern at the top of the list. Thank you! From the bottom of my heart- thank you! You are my favorite author- I read waiting for birdy while I was in labor with my first son (true story) and have devoured everything else since. Your past gift guides have inspired many christmas gifts and fun game nights. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!! - xo Rebecca Ringquist (Dropcloth Embroidery)
Also obsessed with tiny spoons? I might have snuck (several) into my purse over the years? Did I say that out loud? Great list, happy holidays! I’ve already gifted SANDWICH to my bestie after buying a copy/seeing you at Porter Sq.
I immediately recognized the embroidery kit because Rebecca Ringquist is a Portland artist. I LOVE her stuff and her whole approach. I took a fun workshop with her last year, and her classes on Creativebug are great too. I stitched one of her samplers...I'll look for a photo and post it on Notes. PS. Welcome home from your book tour and have a wonderful, delicious Thanksgiving.
I am laughing out loud(ly) as I read your holiday gift guide. Thank you, Catherine! I plan to use this widely as I begin holiday shopping. So happy for you and your successful book tour, and I hope you can hunker down for the holidays and just enjoy simple things.
I can vouch for Priorities (the game)! We've played it with kids and grandparents and it's enjoyable (and illuminating) for all. Simple to start and almost no learning curve. Easy to come-and-go from and play casually.
PS thank you for turning your brain and soul inside out on a regular basis for the rest of us to learn from. I've laughed and learned so much since discovering your writing in Real Simple articles in my early 20s!
My most recent Boat and Tote says “fluoxetine” and it’s also the small little guy and it’s by FAR my favorite one ♥️
Amazing. Mine says "MERDE"

You should've called this "The Only Holiday Gift Guide You'll Need." SO GOOD I want everything! And thank you for the shout-out. xoxoxoxo
Your lists are the BEST.
