Hello, hello! That was a fast couple of weeks that whizzed by in a blur of sleeping late and lying around! We saw far-flung family and also were home with the kids and the cats and it was heavenly and now I am stuffed full of rich food and I’m maybe kind of depressed? Sigh. Anyhoo, short photo essay below, in lieu of the post about alcohol that I keep thinking about writing.
But wait! If you’re so inclined, will you please tell me why you’re here? Like, what kind of content are you looking for? How do we know each other? That kind of thing. I’d be so grateful!

The famous view we hiked to on Skinner Mountain, ha ha ha. (It was a little foggy.)
The best candle I have ever been given. It smells exactly like just-picked mint. I am curious about the other scents of this brand. (e.g. Oaked Bitter Orange!)
My parents gave us the most gorgeous puzzle, and I will treasure it forever.
Jellyfish with the present our beloved teenaged cat sitter gave her, sob.
Momofuku eggs, which I made twice over the holidays.
Birdy’s first polar plunge!
We wore matching thrifted sweatshirts and played many, many games, including Takenoko, which we hadn’t played in ages. Mere hours after this gentle panda-themed experience, we watched the delightfully abrasive Saltburn, which we all loved. (Weirdly, the kids thought it was more shockingly twisted than Michael and I did.)
Birdy made me play the picking game with the Playmobil catalogue and then later my brother spontaneously gave her the exact set she had picked in an utterly uncanny confluence of vibes. (Especially as most people no longer think to give her toys.)
We went to Yankee Candle and smelled weird candles and bought good jelly beans and admired all the little winter scenes and this headless ostrich.
Happy New Year, my darlings. Try reading this if you haven’t yet—it might be just what you needed.
xoxo
Hi! I am here because I loved your house tour on Cup of Jo. I also read your book, which reminded me of the tv show Better Things -- a compliment of the highest order!
I really enjoy "old internet blogging" - slice of life, first person type of work. Nothing that gets you fired or divorced, but just real life stuff.
I'm here because if there is a choice between a regular amount of Catherine Newman in my life or more Catherine Newman in my life, I will always pick more Catherine Newman in my life. xo
