They are tiny and gorgeous and right up your alley, I think. A little bit goes a long way. My friend uses them for calligraphy and my daughter uses them for whatever she's painting. Since you have been my pretend best friend for more than two decades, I should think I would know what you like by now, right?
OMG, I was just looking at their website yesterday and wondering if I should try watercolour. You and Catherine are CLEARLY delivering a message from the universe that, even though I already have too many hobbies and my house is very messy, yes, yes I should.
Catherine, I love the shrimply shrimpy cards, and the spirograph, and will definitely maybe make some sort of hotdog salad soon. I'm not a big tennis fan but I do love women, cheering, and athletic lesbians, so I guess it's time to start cheering for the Toronto Tempo. I should probably pick a PWHL team too.
For anyone who wants to support womens trailrunning (but any women's races conceptually) and wants a cool tshirt: https://www.hereforthewomensrace.com/ "We want to show women that we care about their races, and we want the next generation of little girls to see women racing and believe that they can do it too.
HERE FOR THE WOMEN’S RACE is a non-profit organization on a mission to bring more women into trail running and sports, by showing them how much we want to see them there. "
I thought of you yesterday when I enjoyed the most perfect salad to eat while listening to a free outdoor concert by a hip-hop electric violin group at our humble art center. The salad had a base of roasted cauliflower (sprinkled with powdered garlic and onion, and some smoked paprika) and roasted chick peas. I added leftover pickled red onions (and some of their juice) and cilantro and it was an absolute delight. The cauliflower stinks a tiny bit, but that means my husband and teens will leave all of the salad for me to enjoy:)
I also made the NY Times gluten free chocolate chip cookies and brought them to the concert. I walked around during intermission, handing them out to friends and neighbors, and it was such joy. The world may be on fire, but there is much joy to be had.
I remember NPR reporting on Kyiv as tanks were mobilizing on the border weeks before the Russian invasion. The young adults interviewed said they planned to party and have fun with friends and family. If there lives were going to be over soon, they wanted to enjoy the time they had. Perhaps it's morbid, but I think of that interview a lot these days.
Alcohol is pretty much out for this over-sixty lightweight (seriously, one glass of wine and I’m up at 3:00 am questioning all of my life choices), but I’m still a coffee gal and nothing says fancy summertime drink more than coffee with ice, tonic water and lemon.
Can I just throw in women's hockey - PWHL. It's over now but so so good!!! And makes me a bit weepy/emo every time I watch. It's about bloody time and look at all the (little and big) girls in the stands!
Catherine! Big Lynx fan here, welcome to the party!
I just went on a big riverboat cruise down the Danube River in Eastern Europe and at one point I was listening to your podcast with Nora and taking all kinds of notes at the clever, witty things you said, not to mention your Trader Joe's seedy crackers with cottage cheese and pepperoncinis recipe. You are always changing my life with your wonderful comments and notes about things such as collecting tiny bowls and ramekins at craft fairs. Thank you thank you thank you XOX
My 25-year-old, sports-hating theater kid has in the past year become, in their words, a sporty dyke (weight training and running). They have also realized that they don't actually hate sports; they just don't like *men's* sports. So they have become a huge WNBA fan, and have roped in my 23-year-old, die-hard Eagles (NFL) fan. It's honestly so cute how much they like watching games together.
I still like the occasional martini on a girls night out, but 2 yrs after having my first kiddo and I’m ecstatic that alcohol is such a teeny tiny part of my life these days. It’s been incredible to be nowhere near a hangover for 3 yrs now!!
My kids can't believe my middle school elective choices were home ec or shop -- and none of the girls ever took shop because we'd be the only one and I so regret that choice.
Those were my choices too. Happily 4 other girls were feminists like me and we all sat at adjacent benches in shop class. The only thing Mr Hallisey did differently for us was make sure he had some elastics available after his safety warnings about all the ways people could get their hair caught in the machines. I loved drafting, and I still use the footstool and bottle opener I made.
Oh I LOVE the WNBA too! It’s just the best. But unfortunately I think the hotdog salad is a step too far for me. I have become a proselytizer for your perfect salad with trout!
I am also loving the WNBA - I live near Philly and we are getting an expansion team in 2030! My friend works for the Portland Fire (coolest job ever!) so they are my team (for now). I am also a big fan of the NWSL having grown up playing soccer (poorly). It is really exciting as a woman to watch women play sports in a different way then watching mens sports. Thanks for the shoutout!
Two years ago my niece was attending UofMinnesota and she was a basketball nut so I would take her to Lynx games every so often and then I got hooked. I’d never been a prosports fan but I’ve loved it so much we even bought season tickets.
Oh, Catherine, shrimply can't get enough of your posts!

Do you know about Beam paints?

Wait Emilie, I thought Catherine was my pretend best friend? I suppose we could pretend to share her.
Love all of this.

The world is on fire and we turn to chocolate chip cookies. Exactly. It’s the little things that get us through.

I loved drinking too and now I love not drinking so much more! Seven years next month 💫
You’re the best! I always get a little excitement surge when I see a new post from you. 💜

Ooo going to try that!

Softball is about to start which might ease the pain?

I texted someone this morning, what do I do with all these hot dogs???? Amazing timing.
Check out my friend's new site!!!! https://www.watchwomenssports.com/

OMG i recently found a video of myself from high school making "hot dog fried rice" for my home economics class (OMG HOME EC)

Great minds…last week I made this amazing recipe using fancy hot dogs instead of sausage and 🤯😍https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/777656134-roasted-sausages-with-chickpeas-and-spinach?unlocked_article_code=1.jlA.LeDT.g_5hHWti6_XI&smid=ck-recipe-iOS-share
My aunt used to make a hot dish that consisted of cut up
Hot dogs, canned green beans pieces and tomato sauce. Maybe she seasoned it.
It was amazing and I wanted it every time I visited her.

I don't live in PA anymore, but I grew up in Ardmore, and am excited about the WNBA expansion team!
