Thank you for brightening my inbox this morning! I always put the books you suggest on hold at my library as I'm reading your newsletter--and then when they come in 6 months later I have no recollection of why I requested them, it's like the book fairy just left them on my hold shelf (until I see your blurb and I remember!).

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I’ve maxed out my holds and not a single one can I remember why I reserved them. It makes me feel very adventurous!

Team Adventure! I've now started mostly tagging books in Libby as future holds instead of putting them on hold. I considered having different tags for who recommended them but decided to keep the surprise and mystery of why I tagged/put them hold.

Catherine, I love you, but I love the picture of the jar of popcorn in the bowl even more

I had just worked out so both my arms and brain were feeling noodley when I first read this. Thus it took me 3 times looking through the sequence of salad photos to glean that no, popcorn wasn't a surprise ingredient but being used for weight.

I do want to know, now, if anyone has explored popcorn as a crouton alternative and if it getting soggy with salad dressing ruins it or enhances it.

Ohhh, now I understand the popcorn lol. I looked and looked at it but did not understand.

Reddit and other sources say yes, popcorn is a good crouton alternative. If only I weren't mildly allergic to corn!

It’s so empowering to remember you can just buy a jar of peperoncinis, you don’t have to own a deli to have them

Ahh so glad you'll be doing some workouts! And thrilled to be mentioned in the same post as the legendary Eventide. I've had TWO incredibly memorable meals there (including one during an epic lightning storm!). Portland is a gem!

Your substack is wonderul and uplifiting. I'm obsessed (in a good way, not the creepy way)!

Someone I follow here -- who was it? Design Mom? Katie Clapham? Deb Perlman? ugh my brain, I really don't remember--restacked a video of you giving a book talk which led me here and I'm so glad for it! I feel like a racoon with a shiny thing, grubbily sorting through your old posts. Thank you it's like Christmas in March

I am really looking forward to your talk at the East Hampton library but keep waiting for a message saying oops you made a mistake and are really going to East Hampton NY bc who comes to that little CT town near me? Love seeing Three Dollar Dewey’s on your list - when my kids were little they loved eating dinner “ in a bar” and the popcorn while we waited for dinner was life saving. I am a fan of nearby vacations - lower stakes, lower expectations. Definitely will try this slaw method!

Oooooh that’s why there’s random popcorn in the recipe photos! I just got it. Am smart, really ….

*quickly googles GF cheezits, finds out they're not coming to Canada* sob!!

I love your tofu recipe and your apology after made me LOL. Have you tried Hetty McKinnon's new NYT cooking recipe for tofu and broccoli with gochujang sauce? It's REALLY good, the tofu is so well-seasoned. I'm going to make it with cabbage instead of broccoli this week.

Yes to driveable vacations! So much more relaxing.

The popcorn photo threw me off until I read further about putting a weight on the slaw!

Thanks for making me laugh every time!

Also, OBSESSED with The Pitt!!! Gaaah best show. How the actors can perform that dialogue!!??
